Job Title: HR Generalist 

Job Description:
The HR Generalist is responsible for collaborating with the HR Manager in the management of Sustainable Waterloo's organizational human resource plan. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Working with HR Manager to maintain Sustainable Waterloo's HR plan
  • Assisting with volunteer recruiting activities
  • Assisting with the orientation of new staff and volunteers
  • Assisting in the planning and organization of internal team events
  • Human Resources related projects
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Previous HR experience
  • CHRP or working towards, an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills
Time commitment: Approximately 4 hours a week, plus team meetings




Job Title: Web and IT Coordinator

Job Purpose: The Web Coordinator is responsible for supporting the needs of the Web & IT team with a particular focus on internal applications and IT support services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating Sustainable Waterloo’s applications, as required:
    • Internal Staff Portal:
      • Event Tools
      • GHG Directory Tool
      • PR/Newsroom
      • etc.
    • Regional Carbon Initiative Members’ Portal
  • Supporting Sustainable Waterloo volunteers and staff with various IT support services:
    • Create/Delete internal portal accounts and manage application access
    • Create/Delete email accounts and manage inbox sizes
    • Invite/Upgrade/Uninvite to team file share accounts
    • Add/Remove users from internal mailing lists
    • Act as a resource for volunteers who are experiencing IT difficulties
    • Assist in installing required software (i.e. Office 2007, Windows 7)
  • Managing Data Backups:
    • Web server database
    • Team file share
  • Documentation: Updating and creating as required

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of web programming, with a focus on HTML, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, CSS
  • General IT background and knowledge. Some experience in helpdesk environments is preferred.
  • Some experience in user administration, especially using cPanel is preferred.

 

Time commitment: Approximately 4 hrs per week, plus weekly team meeting





Job Title: IT Accounts & System Coordinator

Job Description: The IT Accounts and Systems Coordinator plays a key role in creating and supporting the systems used by Sustainable Waterloo. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Accounts:

    • Account creation and maintenance for Sustainable Waterloo's systems and tools
    • Management of mailing lists
    • Manage member file sharing resources
    • Reports pertaining to accounts and security reviews
    • Documentation to facilitate easier account management

    Systems:

    · Internal Team Portal:

      • Create tools for the internal portal as required.  Update any tools requiring modifications
      • Assist users in the use of tools through creating documentation
      • Create and maintain development documents for internal tools
    • File Management:
      • Maintain, expand, improve upon the current file sharing resource
      • Maintain weekly backups
    • Asset management for all non-Audio/Visual equipment
Skills needed to be successful in this role: 

· Familiarity with webmail administration systems preferably using Cpanel
 
· Familiar with PHP, javascript, and MySQ
· Management of a mailbox for requests (support@sustainablewaterloo.org –  this address does not exist right now.

Time commitment: Approximately 4-5 hours a week plus the weekly team meeting




Job Title: New Initiative Feasibility Researchers

Job Description:


The primary focus of these positions is the preliminary research and analysis of the opportunity for Sustainable Waterloo to deliver new initiatives in Waterloo Region.

 

This research will provide the background required to present a recommendation to Sustainable Waterloo’s Board of Directors.

 

New initiatives to be considered are:

  • Agriculture: Explore possibilities to assist both corporate and family farms in reducing the environmental impact of their food production operations
  • Renewable Energy Co-Op: Look at options to leverage Regional Carbon Initiative membership to lower the cost to members of installing and operating renewable energy solutions
  • Waste Diversion: Explore possibilities to assist organizations in the Waterloo Region reduce their production of waste

 

Key research topics include but are not limited to:

· Thorough understanding of Sustainable Waterloo’s current work and strategic plan (to be finalized)

· Local needs assessment

· Identification of potential support from local business / prospective members (secondary research)

· Recommended possible integration with existing projects (i.e. Regional Carbon Initiative)

· Analysis of strategic fit (pending strategic map completion)

· Review and recommendation of a social-entrepreneurship style initiative to model after






Job Title: Sustainable Office Space Researcher

Job Description:


As Sustainable Waterloo looks to its future, it recognizes the opportunity to make its next office space a showcase for environmental leadership in the Waterloo Region.

 

This research will provide the background required to present a recommendation to Sustainable Waterloo’s Board of Directors.

 

Although not mutually exclusive or meant to limit further research, Sustainable Waterloo has identified three potential opportunities for the office:

  • Office Space: To secure environmentally sustainable office space for its own operations
  • Demonstration Office: To showcase cutting-edge sustainable building technologies and illustrate the benefits in a small office setting
  • Collaboration Space: To secure environmentally sustainable office space for its own operations, provide discounted office space to other environmental non-profits in order to increase collaboration, and provide additional

 

Key research topics include but are not limited to:

· Thorough understanding of Sustainable Waterloo’s current work and strategic plan (to be finalized)

· Local needs assessment

· Analyses of financial opportunities and risks

· Identification of potential support from local non-profits, and community partners

· Recommended possible integration with existing projects (i.e. Regional Carbon Initiative)

· Analysis of strategic fit (pending strategic map completion)

· Development of an implementation plan
